Theatreworkz presents "Parade"
Theatreworkz presents the regional premiere of "Parade" at the Pemberton Centre from Wednesday 16 May to Saturday 19 May (7.30pm nightly).
"Parade" is an American musical masterpiece, a true story centering on the 1913 'Trial of the Century' in which Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-born Jew, living in Atlanta, was falsely accused of killing Mary Phagan, a young girl working in the factory he managed. Leo was railroaded through a trial, found guilty and sentenced to hang. His wife, Lucille, launched a heroic campaign to save his life, eventually convincing the Governor to overturn the death sentence.
The title of the show refers to the annual parade held on Confederate memorial Day, for it was on that day in 1913 that the murder took place. The parade was a rallying point for proud Southerners still affected by the defeat int he Civil War.
At the forefront of this tragic tale is a heartbreaking love story. Before the trial, Leo and Lucille Frank were formal and restrained with one another.
This fabulous musical, originally performed on Broadway, was recently revived in London with critically acclaimed productions at the Donmar Warehouse and the Southwark Playhouse. The musical is packed full of memorable songs and showcases a line-up of wonderful vocalists.
Parade is performed by a stellar cast of local actors and musicians brought together by Theatreworkz, an award winning local group responsible for recent productions including: La Cage aux Folles, Our House, Songs for a New World, Bad Girls, Radio Times and Just So.
Theatreworkz are also performing Calendar Girls from Tuesday 4 September to Saturday 8 September at 7.30pm nightly. Tickets will cost £12 each but Theatreworkz are offering a 2 Show Deal: buy 2 tickets for Parade and get 2 tickets for Calendar Girls at £9 each!
