Funky Smoooth Jive

Dance - jiveWould you like a night out with a difference? Check out the regular monthly dance night's hosted by Lazy Dave at the Pemberton Centre!

How is it different? Well, they play great music, but the difference to many nights out are the people! The night moves to the beat of partner dancing, and social partner dancing at that! Which means lots of dancing with multiple partners in a safe environment. The dance floor is a safe place where people can just enjoy moving to the music within the simple steps of partner dancing. Simply have a dance, say thank you and go get another dance from somebody else! It's addictive and great fun!
For details of the next social dance night, check out the events page at The Pemberton Centre or log on to www.uk-smoooth.co.uk - contact ‘Lazy Dave’ on 07710 033363.

Funky Smooth Jive is suitable for adults of all ages – whether you come on your own or with a partner or think you may have two left feet! This is probably the easiest partner dance to learn with no complicated foot patterns and the classes are always light-hearted and really good fun. You’ll wish you’d started dancing years ago!

Learn how to do acrobatics whilst bouncing on a trampoline!

Sunday 10am-11am
11am-12noon

Exercise on a trampoline is not only fun but will enhance overall coordination, strength, flexibility, timing and balance.  Rebounding will exercise and strengthen every muscle, organ and cell in your body.

Studies by NASA scientists show that rebounding is 68% more effective than jogging even though it requires less effort!  You can also develop both upper and lower body strength.

Apart from being great fun, bouncing on a trampoline brings a number of very real health and wellbeing benefits including:

  • Balance – trying to bounce in one place on a trampoline means you have to develop a keen sense of balance and awareness of how your body’s balance can be adjusted (or compromised) by small movements at the body’s extremities.
  • Coordination – closely related to balance is the need to coordinate arm and leg actions, as well as many fast-twitch muscle groups, necessary to form the different shapes and perform the various somersaults and twists.
  • Bilateral motor skills – the action of bouncing whilst trying to maintain balance and coordinate bodily extremities calls on both sides of the body and, indeed, the brain to become engaged which is quite different to many ground based sports where one side can often be favoured (most notably in football for example).
  • Rhythm – again closely related but distinct is the need to bounce in tune with the trampoline to achieve optimum height for least effort.
  • Self-confidence – even those least confident with sports will find it possible to make some progress on the relatively forgiving surface of a trampoline and this progress will help boost confidence.
  • Cardiovascular fitness – bouncing on a trampoline increases the pulse rate and strengthens muscle groups essential for a healthy cardiovascular system.
  • Bone Density – bouncing repeatedly puts bones under small amounts of stress sufficient to help them build themselves up to cope with that stress. This in turn reduces the risk of factures and osteoporosis.
  • Improved lymphatic circulation –the short periods of weightlessness between periods of higher than average G forces that occur whilst bouncing actually helps the body get rid of toxins; physical activity and gravity effects are essential to the lymphatic system achieving this and both are more actively engaged when trampolining than with almost any other sport.
  • Low impact – although bouncing is an impact sport the period of acceleration and deceleration is much longer than with activities such as jogging where the surface used has no give at all.  During the build up to the World Cup in 2002 David Beckham was seen building up fitness and ball skills whilst using a mini-rebounder for this very reason.
  • SPINNING®

The Nene Centre and the Pemberton Centre offer SPINNING® classes throughout the week.

If you want to burn lots of calories whilst listening to great motivating music our cycle SPINNING® classes are ideal.

    Spinning Bikes_crop

SPINNING® is a relatively recent phenomenon, where participants take part in a group workout on static exercise bikes.  Sessions typically last anywhere from 30-75 minutes.  The classes are lead by instructors who normally guide participants through a series of phases, from warm-up to more challenging phases, to a period of peak effort followed by a cool down.

In SPINNING® classes, the intensity of the workout is influenced by:

    • Cadence, or pedal rate

    • Resistance of the bike’s flywheel, which can be continually adjusted throughout the class to make pedalling easier or more difficult

    • The rider’s body position as they either pedal from a seated position or rise from the saddle

Ultimately participants determine their own levels of exertion  .Our instructors will encourage and motivate you to push yourself, and you'll most likely find SPINNING® to be a vigorous workout.  It's a great way to help stay in shape and there’s no worry of having to push a bike 3 miles home in the pouring rain if you acquire a puncture whilst in the back of beyond!

SPINNING® exercise is a great way to keep your body in shape and has a number of incredible benefits for your body:

SPINNING® exercise helps to burn fat.  Through SPINNING® exercise, you can increase your heart rate up to 80 percent which is one of the best increases you can reach when trying to burn fat  .Burning fat is done largely by elevating your heart rate, with most benefits coming when you reach 65 to 75 percent.  As such, one SPINNING® exercise can contribute tremendously to your health, helping you burn up to twelve hundred calories!

While it might seem obvious, another great benefit from SPINNING® exercise is your improved leg strength.  Using a bicycle puts a lot of stress on your glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings, and since SPINNING® exercise is simply an intense form of biking using a stationary bike, you will be able to target each of these muscle groups and to see a lot of growth in each region.

SPINNING® exercise can also help improve your posture.  When using the stationary bike for such intense workouts, you will be putting a lot of focus on your stabiliser muscles.  This increased muscle on your hips and shoulders will help improve your posture and body alignment.

SPINNING® is free to Aspirations Members but you do need to book in order to secure a bike.

Ask at Reception for more details.
