Cultural Community Partnerships (CCP) is pleased to announce that we are now able to offer the option of a temporary Nene gym facility based at East Northamptonshire Council offices which are directly opposite the Nene Centre.
Take advantage of this value-for-money gym until the Nene Centre reopens. Our existing friendly Nene Centre Fitness Team will be on hand if you need any help or advice with fitness programmes or your exercise regime.
We will be opening the gym from Monday 10 September between 9am-9pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm at weekends.
Monthly membership costs £9.99 and includes group classes at the Plaza Centre and Snooks in Raunds (subject to availability) or take advantage of our special offer - £80 for 9 months. You will need to book all classes in advance.
Members will need to book all classes in advance at our temporary gym reception on 01832 734090.
We also have a Gym at the Pemberton Centre which is IFI (Inclusive Fitness Initiative) accredited.
If members still wish to use Splash and Pemberton as part of there membership they will still be required to have an existing Aspirations Membership.
When you join you will receive a new temporary membership card that can only be used at the temporary Nene gym and for group classes held at the venues in Thrapston and Raunds.
As an alternative to Membership status, you can use the gym on a ‘pay as you go’ basis at a cost of £3 per visit. Classes can be booked by non members at a cost of £3.50 per class, but they will need to prebook and prepay for them at the temporary gym facility. Alternatively, non-members can purchase 10- cards (but classes still need to be booked at 01832 734090 to ensure a place).

Press Release - Nene Centre
Cultural Community Partnerships have been informed by East Northamptonshire Council that they are proposing to undertake major structural roofing repairs to the Nene Centre from September 2012.
You will be aware that CCP and ENC have been working together to try to find a solution to an ongoing issue with roof leaks at the Nene Centre. Earlier indications from the Council were that the roofing repairs could be carried out whilst the Centre remained open. However, we have now been advised that the roof will now be replaced and repair is no longer viable and that the Centre will need to be completely closed for a period of approximately 9 months to facilitate these works.
At the same time as the roof replacement internal improvements and refurbishment will be made to the centre that are likely to include:
• Bigger gym with 60 workstations instead of the current 35
• New sauna, steam & relaxation area
• Improved wet side and new dry side changing facilities
• 2 new multi use studios
• Upgrades to communal areas
Regretfully, therefore, we apologise to all our customers, clubs and hirers for the inconvenience caused while the roof replacement and improvements are undertaken. We will be writing individually to all customers and hirers within the next few days to update them.
Aspirations Members will have the options of suspending, cancelling or utilising the Pemberton Centre and Splash Pool (under their current membership provisions).
Additional places for child and adult swimming lesson classes will be made available where possible at Splash Pool.

NENE CENTRE CLOSURE – FAQs
Why is the roof being replaced?
The replacement of the Nene Centre roof has to take place before it deteriorates further and the Centre becomes unusable.
Who is paying for the roof replacement work?
The Council will pay for the roof replacement work to be done initially, and intends to recover the cost of the replacement through legal proceedings. We are unable to say any more at this time, due to these legal proceedings being under way.
Why does The Nene Centre have to close temporarily?
As the roof is being completely replaced, the Centre cannot continue to operate while the work is being done. Closure will be kept to the absolute minimum for the work to take place, and we are exploring options for alternative activities in local venues. The Pemberton Centre and Splash Leisure Pool will remain open during this time and cater for Nene Centre customers and members who wish to use these alternatives.
When will the Centre close?
It is currently anticipated that the Nene Centre will close for the work in early September 2012. Customers will be notified in advance of the exact date of closure through our website, Nene Valley News and social media.
When will it re-open?
CCP have been advised that the planned works will take up to 9 months from closure. Customers will be notified in advance of the date of closure and kept informed of progress via our website, Nene Valley News and social media.

Will any alternative facilities be available?
Customers who have opted to remain Members will be able to use the Pemberton Centre and Splash Pool under their existing Membership. Other customers can also use these sites on a ‘pay and play’ basis. What choices do monthly Direct Debit members have during the closure period?
Members will have 4 choices:
- Suspend Membership during the period of closure following the last payment of your Direct Debit in August 2012. Upon reactivation of membership you will be able to benefit from the offer as detailed below. We will, of course, notify you prior to reinstating the Direct Debit
- Retain current membership and utilise our other facilities at Splash Leisure Pool and the Pemberton Centre in Rushden
- Opt for the value-for-money temporary Nene Gym based at ENC offices for £9.99 a month
- Cancel membership as from 31 August 2012. CCP will notify customers of the reopening date to give the option to rejoin
Options 1, 2 & 3 only - the following offers will be available when the Centre reopens:
- 1 month’s free membership from the date of reopening
- All current membership prices held for a minimum of 12 months from the reopening date
- An invitation to an Aspirations Members’ only Open Day
- No rejoining fee
Option 4, Cancelled Memberships:
- Members who have cancelled and wish to rejoin will not be charged a joining fee if rejoining within the first 2 months of reopening.

Where is the nearest alternative swimming pool and gym?
The Splash Leisure Pool at Rushden for swimming and the Pemberton Leisure and Conference Centre, also in Rushden, for fitness and a wide range of leisure activities.
Will membership and prices increase when the Centre re-opens?
There are no plans to increase prices when the Nene Centre reopens.
What will staff do while The Nene Centre is closed? Will they still be paid if they are not working?
Unfortunately, due to the planned closure for a period of up to 9 months, staff have had to be notified, under statutory requirements, that their jobs are at risk from redundancy.
